Materials & Care
Stoney Maine’s pieces are produced in 14k and 18k gold-plated brass, stainless steel or sterling silver metal. Gold plating allows us to develop pieces that are fashionable, durable and affordable. The affordability of our jewellery is important to us, which is why we have opted to use gold-plate for our pieces to ensure we can keep the price point at an affordable level.
All of our earrings are rhodium-plated giving, them extra strength and longer durability. Rhodium plating should not scratch, dent or corrode and allows our earrings to be hypoallergenic. If you have a nickel, gold, or other allergy, rhodium is the perfect choice to protect your skin from irritation.
What is gold plating?
Gold-plated jewellery is a popular and affordable option for those who want the look of gold jewellery without breaking the bank. Stoney Maine gold-plated jewellery has a layer of 14k or 18k gold plating applied over a (nickel-free) alloy metal base. This provides the appearance of solid gold without the high cost.
Is gold-plated jewellery a good option?
One reason to consider gold-plated jewellery is its versatility. Whether you're dressing up for a formal event or looking for everyday wear, gold-plated jewellery can complement any outfit.
Another advantage is its durability. While not as long-lasting as solid gold, gold-plated jewellery can still withstand everyday wear and last for years with proper care. By avoiding exposure to water, perfume, and other harsh chemicals, you can help maintain the appearance of your gold-plated jewellery.
Store your gold-plated jewellery in the cotton pouches we provide, keeping it away from direct sunlight.
